Scientist, Metabolic Engineering
ZymoChem is seeking a highly motivated Scientist / Senior Scientist to immediately join and contribute to our company’s R&D efforts focused on metabolic engineering. Primary responsibilities for this position will include  the development of expression systems tailored for non-model organisms; and  the design and execution of metabolic engineering workflows for characterizing & optimizing biosynthetic pathways.
This Scientist position requires an entrepreneurial-level initiative, the ability to demonstrate scientific leadership, and the capability to prioritize & efficiently multi-task on a daily basis. An adept ability to effectively communicate and work with a team in a fast-paced environment is crucial, and the desire & skills to manage other researchers are also prerequisites.
This position is for a full-time appointment with benefits including medical, dental, and vision.
PhD in chemical engineering, bioengineering, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline; previous work in an industrial setting or startup environment is preferred
Extensive experience with building, testing, and optimizing metabolic pathways for the production of chemicals
Proven expertise with engineering non-model organisms is strongly preferred
Experience in using state-of-the-art –omics methodologies for strain characterization & engineering
Experience with bench-scale fermentations, media formulation development, and routine analytic techniques such as HPLC
Other Relevant Qualifications
Technical experiences and in-depth knowledge with the following:
State-of-the-art genome engineering & strain construction techniques such as CRISPR/Cas9 and homologous recombination
Experience with successfully developing DNA transformation work flows for non-model organisms
Operation of lab-scale controlled bioreactors and high cell density fed-batch fermentations
–Omics techniques for the characterization of metabolic pathways
Other desired qualities & experiences include:
Track record of supervising other scientists and/or research associates
Experience with writing successful grant proposals
Relevant publication record and achievements
