ZymoChem’s Bio-Based Diaper Technology Wins Over Real Parents in Independent Home Use Test

BAYSE™ Bio-SAP matches and often beats conventional petroleum-based diapers on the performance metrics parents care about most

ZymoChem releases results of In Home Use study on diapers powered by BAYSE™

San Leandro, Calif., May 15, 2026 - ZymoChem, the biotechnology company pioneering sustainable alternatives to petrochemical materials, today announced strong consumer validation of its BAYSE™ Bio-SAP (bio-based super absorbent polymer) following an independent In-Home Use Test (IHUT) conducted in the first Quarter of 2026.

Parents across the U.S., the majority of whom were loyal to the market share leading brands, tested Size 4 diapers containing BAYSE™ Bio-SAP under normal household conditions over three to four days. The study found that most parents preferred the performance of ZymoChem's bio-based alternative, with 92% reporting overall appeal and 76% indicating purchase intent.

Performance Exceeds Consumer Expectations and Drives Acceptance

Before learning anything about the bio-based technology in the diapers, respondents rated them favorably across every core performance dimension: absorbency, leak protection, skin comfort, and fit. More than half preferred the BAYSE™ Bio-SAP diaper over the brand they use most often.

These results reinforce prior in-lab testing conducted by ZymoChem and external parties, which found that BAYSE™ Bio-SAP diapers leak less frequently than the U.S. market average, while performance on key attributes such as strikethrough, rewet, and overall capacity is comparable to some of the leading brands available today.

Sustainability Boosts Purchase Intent

Although parents had limited familiarity with Bio-SAP technology at the outset of the test, interest increased dramatically once it was explained at the conclusion. Upon learning that the performance they experienced was delivered by a bio-based, microplastic-free, and biodegradable material, consumer interest surged. Both purchase intent and overall appeal rose significantly, demonstrating that sustainability credentials, when paired with proven performance, are a powerful commercial driver.

Why it Matters

The baby diaper market has relied on petroleum-derived SAP technology for decades. ZymoChem's BAYSE™ Bio-SAP challenges that status quo by matching or exceeding that performance rather than compromising it. These findings are directly relevant to diaper manufacturers, brands, retail partners, and impact investors evaluating bio-based materials for commercialization at scale.
